The Middle East is an area where car is king and fuel is low-cost, often leaving little incentive to discover more environmentally-friendly ways of moving.

But this year, as protests across the Middle East have pushed up the cost of oil, the concern of finding alternative sources of fuel has actually entered sharp focus.

In a region that has among the greatest carbon footprints on the planet, one is making the most of the growing pressure to discover options to oil. It's set up the Middle East's very first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It's proving successful too, currently their client-list includes McDonald's.
